Recently, the children found out their new “word of the month” which aims to further develop our children’s language acquisition. The children considered what they thought the word, which is specific to their class, might mean as well as discussing how the word could be used in the correct context. The children also thought about how they could use known patterns to help them spell the word correctly. Tommy said, “Our word of the month is defiance and I am going to use it in my writing to describe the actions of some youngsters against joining the army at the start of World War Two.” Mrs. Johnson added, “A robust vocabulary improves all areas of communication and is critical to a child’s success.”
