Last week, the children in year 5 took part in the final section of their citizenship award by completing their first aid training. The children learnt how to identify and apply a bandage to bleeds and cuts by practising on each other. They also learnt about a variety of burns and how to treat them, before finding out how to perform back thrusts and abdominal thrusts in case of choking.
Cayden said, “To help a choking child, you would need to give five back blows using the softest part of your hand.” Parker added, “If someone had something stuck in their arm and was bleeding, you wouldn’t take it out. Instead, you would put two rolled up bandages to the side and apply pressure.”
Congratulations to the following children for winning an achievement award at Tuesday’s assembly.
